1. Would we still use it if nobody else ever complimented it?
This question filters out names you like mostly because they sound impressive, fresh, or socially approved.
2. Can we picture saying it every day?
A baby name does not live in a list. It lives in a thousand ordinary moments: bedtime, car seats, school pickup, introductions, and family holidays.
3. Does it still work with the last name?
Some favorites fall apart when you say the full name out loud. Rhythm matters more than people expect.
4. Is this name carrying too much family politics?
Sometimes a name is good, but the backstory is exhausting. It helps to be honest about that early.
5. Are we choosing the full name or only the first name?
A name can feel flat by itself and great once the middle name is in place. Testing combinations often rescues good first names from the discard pile.
6. Does one of us only like it because the other person does not?
This happens more than people admit. If the name is becoming symbolic, pause and reset.
7. If the baby arrived tonight, would this still make the cut?
This is the cleanest pressure test. It pulls you away from fantasy and back toward a real decision.
